Images from my trips to Hoboken, New Jersey

I caught the evening blues in Hoboken New Jersey
— Nathaniel Bagot-Sealey

I decided to visit Hoboken, New Jersey recently to photograph the New York city skyline across the waters. The very first time I got there it was around 10 in the morning (see 2nd image below) and the sky was very hazy. I was initially discouraged when I looked at the back of my camera screen to see that I couldn't make out the skyline all that well. But when I ended up importing the images onto my computer I liked the images a whole lot more and I subsequently decided to return to Hoboken a few more times that week to capture the skyline at different times of the day. This allowed me to pick a composition that I found most pleasing and also I was able to witness the light having varying effects on the overall 'look' of my images. My favourite is the image above which I'm calling 'The Evening Blues'. I like the image because I captured the scene in the brief window of time where the sky and the water were still blue and the city lights had begun to turn on (instead of the the sky being dark black). My camera settings were: ISO 200, f/2.8, 0.6 seconds at 70mm. I like the image because the shutter was open long enough for the clouds and the water to start to blur. I also like the gradations of blue in the image.

I really enjoyed taking these photographs and I definitely think I'll be doing more landscape photography some time soon. But for now have a great week and take care!

Oh yeah, one more thing, in light of my trip to Hoboken NJ... shoutout to Steven Sanchez. He's a Jersey City, NJ based photographer with some cool images and a unique eye. You can check out his Instagram here: http://bit.ly/1SpqJAz
