My First Ever Blog Post - Chicago
Chicago - N Michigan Ave & E Washington St
Here I intend to regularly post about my weekly photography experiences. I'll start by writing about my day trip to Chicago earlier this month. I caught an early Greyhound coach that arrived at the bus station just after 9.am. My plan for the day was to just simply to walk the busy streets of downtown Chicago, capturing whatever caught my eye. I decided to travel light by only bringing one small camera and a walk-around zoom lens (with a few ND filters). I started off by walking towards the Buckingham Fountain to get a sense of the massive cityscape. The first thing that I noticed when I got off the bus in Chicago was the architecture. There were countless skyscrapers everywhere and consequently I found myself continuously looking upwards admiring all the tall buildings. It was really refreshing to just wonder the streets with my camera, soaking up the atmosphere and documenting the 'hustle and bustle' as people went about their business.
The above photograph was the last image that I took that day. I like it because of the symmetry and the multiple layers that are present, from the colourful traffic in the immediate foreground, to the grey subway train that races across the middle terrain and then the row of buildings either side that venture into the distance. I pressed my camera up against a traffic light post to steady the frame during the 1/5 of a second that it took to take this photograph. I thoroughly enjoyed my day in Chicago and I definitely intend to go back some time soon!
